up of titanium dioxide. It has a remarkably high refractive index, which is the
most outstanding physical properties that makes it to disperse plenty of light more
than any other mineral known to mankind. It belongs to the larger quartz group and
closely resembles to smoky quartz as well as rose quartz.
Availability - Rutilated quartz is one of the many types of quartz
that make up 12% of the earth’s crust yet the rarest to find. It is found in Kazakhstan,
Madagascar, Australia, Norway, Brazil, and the US (mostly in areas around mountain
ranges) and has many advantages to mankind. The mineral often forms needle-like
crystal inclusions in an “imbedded goldish” structure. Rutile needles are available
in reddish, silvery, greenish, golden or gray.
Usages - Rutilated Quartz is not so expensive gemstone, and may
be cut into large gemstones. It may also be cut into cabochons as well as beads,
and may be carved into large ornamental spheres. Rutile is even used for commercial
purposes to manufacture refractory ceramic, the high-tech production of alloys and
as a pigment. Rutile, which is wonderfully powdered gives a brilliant white pigment
and is used in paper, plastics, foods, paints and other applications that call for
